As the Vice President of Global Programs, Dr. Pamela Crane-Hoover is responsible for the successful implementation of water, sanitation, and hygiene programs in rural communities. Pamela joined Lifewater in 2013, following 10 years of experience in community water development and research in developing countries, with a particular focus in Africa. Pamela holds a BS in Environmental Biology from Taylor University, a MS in Environmental Geology, and a PhD in Water Resources, both from the University of Notre Dame. Pamela serves on the Accord Network’s WASH Alliance Steering Committee. Her passion for water development began at an early age, during her childhood in the Middle East and South Pacific, where safe water was never guaranteed.

Julie Waechter is the WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Program Officer. She supports the continuous evaluation and improvement of Lifewater’s programs around the globe through data analysis and capacity building. She is also responsible for the creation and execution of Lifewater’s curriculum and trainings for field staff and community leaders in Africa and Asia. Julie has served with Lifewater in numerous capacities since she began with Lifewater 2008, including as Volunteer Coordinator, Project Management, Curriculum and Training Specialist. Her commitment to bringing about justice and peace for vulnerable people suffering from lack of safe water, sanitation, and hygiene has led Julie to the far corners of the world in training WASH professionals in Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. Julie has a B.A. in International Relations from the University of California, Davis and an M.A. in International Relations with a concentration in International Development from American University.

Teshale is responsible for overall implementation and strategic day-to-day technical leadership, management, and coordination of Lifewater’s programs in West Arsi, Ethiopia. Teshale joined Lifewater in October 2015 with an experience of 20 years in development work. He has served as an Agriculture Section leader, Project Manager, Program Officer, and WASH Team leader for programs run by the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus – Development and Social Services Commission ( DASSC). Teshale has an undergraduate degree in Agriculture and is pursuing his Postgraduate degree in Rural Development specialization at Hawassa University in Ethiopia.

Growing up in a rural South African village, Nina saw first-hand the long journeys for contaminated water and the suffering that comes with water-borne illness. She studied Graphic Communication and Marketing at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo upon her return to the United States, and she was working as a graphic designer at Mountainbrook Church when she learned about Lifewater’s approach to serving rural communities; it was then that she became resolute about using her talents to help families around the world. Outside of work, she enjoys taking photos, being at the beach, and riding her Vespa around San Luis Obispo.

Daren is a co-founder of Activewater. An accomplished public speaker, Daren regularly shares about the global water and sanitation crisis at conferences, churches, youth groups, schools, and small businesses. Some of his athletic accomplishments and personal campaigns to raise money for safe water include walking 3,400 miles of the United States, cycling 4,400 miles from Oregon to Virginia, competing in several marathons and ironman events, swimming 50.6 non-stop miles across Lake Michigan in under 35 hours, and most recently, running 100 marathons in 100 days across the United States. He holds a B.A. in Youth and Family Ministries from Kentucky Christian University.

As Marketing Project Manager, Danny works behind the scenes to make sure our team has the tools they need to communicate Lifewater’s message.  Danny was involved in church planting in Ukraine from 2001-2015. He co-pastored a church in a rural town and was engaged in community transformation efforts through sustainable resource enterprises, book publishing, and discipleship.  A San Luis Obispo area native, he enjoys surfing and exploring the central coast trails with his wife.

As a WASH Engineer, Jon gives technical oversight to Lifewater’s work in Uganda and Cambodia and supports the field teams with hardware planning, implementation, and monitoring. He holds a MS in Water Resources Engineering from Oregon State University and has worked on international water projects for over a decade. Jon recognizes that communities in need do not get to choose the level of service they receive, so he is committed to providing them the most excellent service possible. As a San Diego, CA resident, much of Jon’s free time is spent motorcycling with friends, gardening, and working on house projects with his wife, Lindsey.

Emily believes that no one deserves to live without access to clean water or sanitation. This belief runs in her family, as she first learned about the subject from her father, who taught internationally on the topic. Emily has a Bachelor’s and Masters in Environmental Science from Taylor University. After graduation, she spent five years doing disaster response and development WASH in Haiti, Nepal, and Myanmar, among others. When she isn’t saving the world through sustainable health, she’s drinking coffee, hiking, making pottery, and trying her utmost not to lose a tube of chapstick before finishing it off.

She handles the day-to-day office operations at Lifewater Headquarters and is always available to answer the many donor inquiries that come in via email or phone. Prior to joining Lifewater, Reenie served for eight years as a missionary in Ukraine assisting in church planting efforts and ministering to orphans and children with special needs. Her passion to help vulnerable children makes her very grateful to be a part of Lifewater’s ministry. Abate brings more than 20 years experience working with governments and non-government organizations to Lifewater, including nearly a decade of WASH experience with the Norwegian Lutheran Mission and their partners. Throughout his career he has served as a WASH Project Manager, Renewable Energy Project Manager and as Head of Agriculture and Natural Resource & Rural Land Management in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regional State.
Abate has an engineering degree and an MS in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development from Haramaya University. He is married with two daughters.

Lindsay believes that good intentions are not enough, and she’s passionate about using data to make Lifewater programs as effective as possible. She holds a BA in Political Science from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and an MS in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She has 10 years of experience in global health programs, including water and sanitation, maternal and child health, and humanitarian response. Daniel first became interested in Lifewater when he learned about the church planting movements that come alongside each water project. He was also encouraged by the impact that water access has on helping children go to school. Daniel previously worked as a financial analyst for Moonstone Hotel Properties, managing finances and accounting for hotels in California and Oregon, and then going on to get his MBA from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. One time, Daniel rode his bike 3,400 miles from Seattle, WA to Yorktown, VA to raise money for wounded veterans! And each Sunday, he leads worship at his church.

Alex Muhumuza Mbaguta provides leadership and oversees overall operations of Lifewater programs in Uganda. He has extensive experience spanning over 15 years working for several international and national NGOs. Before joining Lifewater, Alex directed and managed WASH programs for other organizations, including Uganda Water and Sanitation NGO Network (UWASNET), a national umbrella network of over 200 WASH NGOs in the Ugandan WASH Sector. Alex holds a Masters Degree in Development Studies from DSC, Dublin, Ireland, and an M.A in Public Administration and Management from Makerere University, and a B.A. in Social Sciences from Makerere University.

As a Donor Relations Coordinator, Tyson assures that Lifewater’s supporters know the impact that their generosity is making for children and families. Tyson has his BA in history from UC Davis and his Masters of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary. Tyson became passionate about the global water crisis after learning that just a few dollars can help someone get access to clean water and sanitation. He interned at Lifewater in 2005 and afterwards, spent a decade in church ministry as a director and ordained pastor. He is excited to be mobilizing others to end the water and sanitation crisis, and in his free time, he enjoys mountain biking, hiking, skiing and soccer.

Sarah Young serves to improve Water and Sanitation operational excellence, technical implementation, and long-term maintenance and sustainability of hardware systems installed within the context of Lifewater’s Vision of a Healthy Village. A licensed professional civil engineer, Sarah joined Lifewater in 2017, bringing more than two decades of experience in rural water and sanitation development.

As a young woman Sarah sensed a calling to engage with God’s heart for the nations and has invested her entire career in water and sanitation development among the poor and within the context of Christian mission. She loves experiencing the diversity of God’s creation, people, cultures, and the Body of Christ everywhere she goes.

As the Vice President of Philanthropy, Christine Zurbach is responsible for leading the external communications, marketing, and development of financial resources necessary for Lifewater’s ministry. Christine has nearly 20 years experience in Christian Philanthropy: she joined Lifewater in 2011 after serving in multiple church planting and humanitarian-aid efforts in Ukraine where her focus was on local discipleship to care for orphans, widows, and other vulnerable people. Christine holds a B.A. in English from California Polytechnic State University and is passionate about connecting individuals and churches with high-yielding kingdom investments that serve the rural poor in a lasting and dignifying manner.

Dr. Jeff Bjorck is a professor of psychology at Fuller Seminary’s Graduate School of Psychology. He has served there on the faculty since 1990. He teaches in the doctoral program, conducts research which has been published in various scholarly journals, and is also a licensed psychologist in private practice. He received his B.A. in Psychology from Colgate University and his master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Delaware. Jeff is also a pianist/composer, with five CDs produced thus far. He and his wife, Sharon, have been Lifewater supporters since the early 1990s, and Jeff began serving on Lifewater’s Board in 2000. He has spoken about Lifewater at various churches and civic organizations, as well as on radio programs. Jeff has traveled on behalf of Lifewater to diverse locations around the globe, and these trips fuel his passion for promoting transformational development as a tangible means of sharing Christ’s love.

Dave LeVan is a committed Christian, husband and father. He is passionate about bringing hope and transformation to the disadvantaged. He is an experienced entrepreneur, speaker and advisor. Dave serves as a Senior Director with Walmart. His prior work experience includes Advantax, a consulting firm he founded, Kraft Foods, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Dave created Harriette’s Song, a charitable foundation focused on serving children in need, and helped establish Serve the World, an initiative through his church to identify, evaluate and fund charitable projects locally and globally. He serves on the Board of John Brown University and the Institute for Professionals in Taxation. He received a BS in Mathematics from John Brown University and an MBA in Finance from DePaul University.

Gene Ashe is a fourth generation, fluid handling specialist and manufacturer. He is currently CEO of Multi-Duti Mfg. Inc. (MDM), a small, non-metallic pump manufacturer based in Colorado. Together with his wife Jeanne, they have raised three wonderful children who are now raising their five grandsons. Gene currently serves as chair of his local water district board – a district small and rural enough to have been out of water and/or faced the threat of a “boil order.” He can’t remember a time during his life when he was NOT connected with water in one way or another. He counts it a rare privilege to serve his Savior as a board member of Lifewater.

Douglas Headrick began serving with Lifewater as a volunteer in 2003. He has been trained and certified in WASH programs, often traveling to developing countries to train nationals in various aspects of clean water and sanitation practices. Douglas has a BS and MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois and an MBA in Finance from California State University, San Bernardino. He is a registered Professional Civil Engineer and currently is serving as the General Manager of the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District, a regional water resource agency in Southern California. He is a committed Christian who currently serves on the Elder Board of the First Baptist Church of Yucaipa and is President of the Foundation at First. He is married and has 2 daughters. He is honored to be able to serve on the Board of Lifewater International.

Lisa Wen has been partnering with Christ-centered non-profit organizations that serve the poor and facilitate community transformation since 2006. Lisa received a B.A. From Stanford University in 1982, and an M.B.A. from U.C. Berkeley on 1988. Lisa has over 12 years of professional experience in Business Development, Strategic Planning, Marketing, Sales, and Management Consulting in the pharmaceutical, medical device, and health care service industries. She currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her daughter, Ellie, and is a member of Peninsula Community Church in Redwood City, CA.

After serving nearly two decades as a judge in the state of Illinois, Karen retired to the Northwoods of Wisconsin. An active Lifewater volunteer since 2008, her passion for justice and desire to further God’s kingdom can be seen in her care for underserved and vulnerable communities around the world. Throughout more than 20 training trips, Karen has witnessed firsthand the importance and effectiveness of introducing WASH concepts house by house, school by school, and village by village. When she’s not active in the field, Karen enjoys fishing, kayaking, singing in the church choir and renovating her log cabin.

For more than 15 years, Justin Ahrens has led Rule29, an award-winning strategic creative firm, in the studio’s commitment to “Making Creative Matter®.” By building a team of deeply unique and skilled designers, writers, strategists, and storytellers, Justin has created a group of people devoted to transforming communication for their clients.

As a vocal enthusiast for design’s ability to create positive social change, Justin’s design for good initiative has placed a strong focus on using Rule29’s capabilities to maximize the efforts of those desiring to help make the world a better place. More personally, he has seen the potential for social activism to create a new kind of company culture driven by compassion as demonstrated by Wheels4Water, a cycling project bringing clean water to people in need.

He is a frequent speaker, teacher, and writer for various blogs and is also an advocate for balancing life and career as evidenced by his book, Life Kerning: Creative Ways to Fine Tune Your Perspective on Career and Life.

Over a decade ago, Jake made a personal resolution to give and mobilize resources to care for the poor, the oppressed and the unreached during his lifetime.  An active Lifewater donor since 2013, he’s both inspired and motivated at how his personal commitment aligns with Lifewater’s work around the world. Jake has owned and operated a State Farm Insurance Agency based in San Francisco since 2006 and has been recognized both company and industry wide as a top agent in California. He and his wife Erin have three young children, with whom he enjoys travel, camping and creating meaningful memories.
