COVID-19 Update: Lifewater International’s Response to the Pandemic
Updated as of March 18, 2020 (Watch this post for the latest updates)
Over the last few weeks, COVID-19 has spread rapidly, altering the way we live. It’s a significant threat to segments of our society, which makes it a threat to all of us.
In the wake of this threat, Lifewater International is taking every precaution to keep national and international staff and the communities we serve healthy.
But one thing is clear: In this time, our organization is uniquely positioned to help prevent the spread of the virus. For over 40 years, Lifewater has taught life-saving sanitation and hygiene practices—like washing your hands with soap—to communities vulnerable to the spread of disease.
The situation is moving rapidly, and so will we.
How is Lifewater Responding?
First, our national and international teams are now working remotely.
We firmly believe that, in this unique circumstance, social distancing is one of the best ways to love our neighbor and keep them safe from disease transmission.
Second, as health workers during a global health crisis, we’re seeking ways to help.
You’ve probably heard a lot about washing your hands the past few weeks. Teaching proper handwashing is one of the core elements of our Vision of a Healthy Village program and has a profound impact on health. Now more than ever, it is critical to provide this hygiene training along with safe sanitation to families living in extreme poverty; they are the most vulnerable to the spread of disease. Your partnership makes this possible.
Right now, our country staff are coordinating with local and regional governments to share critical health information while limiting exposure and ensuring care for the most vulnerable—the elderly, those with compromised immune systems, pregnant mothers, and more.
Third, we’re praying daily.
Our teams meet daily (now by videoconferencing) to pray for you and for those whom we serve. We pray against a spirit of fear and step forward in faith, knowing our God is in control.
Lifewater Interim President/CEO David LeVan said, “We are in this together, and we will overcome it together; it’s also important to remember that God is in control and there is nothing that surprises him.”
How You Can Help
It’s crucial that we keep providing hygiene training along with safe sanitation to families who are the most vulnerable to the spread of disease.
2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
We are seeking every day to take on a spirit of love and power. In this challenging time, we can’t do it without your support. Your gift will help continue to provide life-saving sanitation and hygiene messages to families who need it most.
