WASH Promotion and Latrine Design and Construction

Lifewater’s Sanitation Program focuses on teaching organizations to a) promote sanitation in communities through awareness-raising campaigns and social marketing, and b) use simple technology and local materials to construct community appropriate household latrines. Community-led total Sanitation (CLTS) has become a successful strategy globally, and Lifewater is revising its curriculum this year to include the latest thinking on this successful strategy. Topics covered in the latrine design and construction course include: how soil and groundwater conditions influence proper latrine location; construction, operation, and maintenance of various latrine designs; and how to adapt designs to accommodate people with special needs.
